By
Jane Coloccia In London , the play is definitely the thing.
This city has always been associated with the theatre…from the time when William
Shakespeare penned his comedies and dramas to present day when the West End attracts
tourists from around the globe who come to London to see the newest plays which
open here before they make it to Broadway. Many travelers
to London plan their visit around the theatre, taking in quite a few plays during
their stay. You need to book your tickets before you head over or else you might
miss out on the ones you want to see. As previously mentioned, the West End is
where much of the theatre action is centered, and hotels conveniently located
in this area include Le
Meridien Russell, the Best
Western Shaftesbury Hotel, Harrington
Hall, K
West Hotel, the Royal
Sussex, Novotel
London Euston, the Sanderson,
and Euston
Plaza. Beyond the West End , there are many repertory
theaters including The Royal National Theatre which performs musicals, classics,
and new plays; The Royal Shakespeare Company; performances at Shakespeare's Globe
Theatre; Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park; The Barbican Centre; and more. Other
cultural venues include The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera House. But
if theatre is not your thing, there is plenty to do after dark that doesn't involve
a curtain. In fact, London is well known for its wild clubs with dan cing and
partying well into the morning hours (some until 9 a.m.!) — just remember that
the Tube stops running around midnight (but the buses still go). After
a big day of sightseeing, dan cing till dawn may not be your thing and there are
quite a number of other options. Jazz and Blues clubs are plentiful and feature
a wide variety of local and international performers. Pubs
are always a great place to be…pretty much any time of the day or night. They
always have a lively atmosphere, you can dress casual, and you're bound to pick
up a great joke or two as the British have a truly wicked sense of humor. And
if you are really into beer, London has microbreweries for your drinking pleasure.
